Summer Events in Sicily

Cultural uplift is important for ever human. Don’t allow yourself to forget about that even when you’re on a vacation, especially if you’re in a place filled with all sorts of events. Music, theatre, dance, festivals- you name it! Sicily is where you should be this summer. There’s something for everyone’s taste. Even the pickiest ones will find something amusing in Palermo, Taormina, Trapani…

Theatre lovers will be happy to see that this summer Sicily is hosting some of the masterpieces of opera. Coming soon, on July 22nd and 23rd, is Verdi’s spectacular opera, Rigoletto. For this unforgettable experience you’ll have to visit Siracusa and its ancient Greek theatre. Rigoletto’s emotional, melodramatic and considered one of the best Verdi’s operas. If you want to experience something core shaking come to see this opera.

Are you more into modern day music than opera? Have no fear; Sicily’s got something special planned for you. The city of Taormina is presenting you two major music events: the concerts of pop star Anastacia and living rock legend Robert Plant. On July 22nd, in the ancient theatre, Chicago-born pop star Anastacia will perform live for you. Anastacia’s voice has a powerful vibe you’ll fall for. Get your tickets for this show starting at 42,00 €. Another splendid performance is two days later on the same place. One of the greatest rock’n’roll singers in history, Robert Plant will be here to prove you that rock isn’t dead and it will always be alive. Together with The Sensational Space Shifters, Plant’s invites you for an all night party you’ll always remember.

Summer in Sicily is all about festivals. Plenty of food, wine, music and dance is on every corner here. For three days, from July 27th to July 31st, you’ll get a chance to explore different street food from Sicily, Italy and Tunisia. Stargusto festival in Trapani is a big street celebration where you can see and feel the beautiful cultural diversity of Sicily. Approximately in the same time, from 28th to 31st July, in wonderful Trapani, there’s a festival dedicated to delicious Sicilian wine. DiVino festival, located in the lovely surrounding of castle in Castelbuono. Fine wine and great blues music will take care of fantastic atmosphere.

For all those lovers of photography out there here’s a special treat. Gibellina, a small city one hour away from Palermo, is the place of a big photography festival called „Gibellina Photoroad“. This open-air festival has 30 photographic exhibitions with the work of both prominent and rising photographers. There will be a lot of workshops, talks, portfolio reviews and chance to fall in love with the art of photography.

The late summer in September is devoted to the art of written word. The 6th annual TAOBOOK or Taormina Book Festival will be held this year from 10th to 16th September. This year the festival will make an accent on diversity and how beautiful it can be. The whole city of Taormina will become one big cultural hot spot buzzing with art lovers.
