Caltavuturo is an ancient village which includes the interesting Archaeological site of Monte Riparato.

Caltavuturo has Arab origins dating back to 882 BC. This village was named Kalat Abu Thur which was the name of the Arab captain who conquered the area, destroying the Byzantine troops. Today, visiting the Archaeological site of Monte Riparato it is still possible to visit the ancient ruins of the first settlement of Caltavuturo and two well preserved necropolises.
The most important cultural attractions of the area are:
The Mother Church, built in 16th century with a late Renaissance style; The Church of Santa Maria la Nuova, built in 17th century; The Church of San Francesco dei Padri Riformati, built in the 2nd century AC which includes a marvellous wooden Crucifix made by Pintorno di Petralia; The Cloister of San Francesco hosts the Museum of Madonie Sicilian Puppets;The Castle of Caltavuturo and the Gazzara canyon.
