Castell’ Umberto is located in the province of Messina and it is rich in history and ancient traditions.
The first information relating to the ancient village of Castell’ Umberto are dating back to 1590. Later in 1673, the feudal town was acquired by Giuseppe Gaudioso. The current old town centre was found in 1865 and includes impressive monuments such as the Mother Church built with three naves, has a wonderful facade made by local sandstone; the Church of Santa Croce rises in the oldest part of the downtown centre and includes a beautiful marble statue representing the Madonna; the Castle was built by Byzantine to protect their colonies; the Church of Santa Barbara, erected in 1472, includes three precious altars dedicated to Santa Barbara, San Gaetano and Santa Lucia.
