Centuripe is very famous for the impressive productions of ceramics created following the models of the ancient archeological findings of the area and their ancient techniques.
Today Centuripe is an important agricultural centre, located on a number of reliefs between the valleys of the Dittaino and Salso rivers, and offers an amazing view of Etna Park. According to tradition its name means the town of 100 rocks. Founded by Siculi in the eighth century AC, during the Roman era, it enjoyed a wealth and prosperity as you can see by the many statues and buildings found all over. Angevins destroyed this amazing village in 1260 and only in 1548 was it rebuilt by the Count of Adernò, Francesco Moncada. Centuripe, is very famous for the impressive productions of ceramics, created following the models of the ancient archeological findings of the area and their ancient techniques.
The main attractions of the village are the church of the Immacolata Concezione, built in the 18th century, famous for its facade designed by the architect Vincenzo Caruso; the Castello di Corradino, a medieval fortress built near a mausoleum from the Roman era; and the Borgo Carcaci, a medieval settlement close to the old village of Carcaci where it is possible to admire an aqueduct of the 18th century that’s considered one of the key marvels of Sicily.
