Custonaci is the site of many incredible caves, considered places of great archaeological and anthropological interest.

The history of Custonaci is linked to the city of Erice, although the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Today this amazing village is the site of many incredible caves, considered places of great archaeological and anthropological interest that help to display its beautiful past. Grotta Miceli has signs of the Palaeolithic period, the Cave Mangiapane was an ancient prehistoric settlement and the Cave Buffa holds 500 stone tools and weapons. Other important archaeological sites include the Cave of the Crucifix, the Romanian cave, Cufuni Cave, Cave of Clava, Cave Maria Santissima di Custonaci, Abisso del Purgatorio. The Marian Sanctuary and the Crucifix Chapel are two sacred holy places, both in fact pilgrimage destinations for many faithful.

This village is a stunning area, more evident in the Riserve of Monte Cofano, a nature reserve through which there are some great trails, you can even have guided hikes to learn about the surrounding flora. The Parco Suburbano Cerriolo is a green karstic area that has some incredible natural shapes. Here it is possible to find lots of Almond, Ash and the Prickly Pear crops. The village is known worldwide for the beautiful marble quarried here, in particular for the fine marble “Perlato di Sicilia” characterized by an ivory and clear colour.

Get on SP 20 (Trapani – Bonagia) to Custonaci, exit Bonagia proseguire. Take SP 18 (Bonagia – Custonaci) exit Custonaci

From Erice:

Get on SP 31 (Trapani – Erice) to Valderice, exit Via Vespri/SS187. Take SS 187 exit Crocevie e Lentina, continue on SP 16 – Via Asse dei Marmi, exit Custonaci
