Gravina di Catania is an ancient rural village surrounded by a wonderful natural environment.
The name of Gravina derives from the word “Prachi ” which refers to its first settlement formed by a series of tiny farms surrounded by an extended wild environment. The feudal town was ruled for a long time, by the Prince of Valguarnera. In 1669 the feudal town was sold to Sir Girolamo Gravina and renamed with his name. The village has a charming Mother Church which was built in the 18th century with the typical Sicilian Baroque Style and dedicated to Sant’Antonio di Padova. The interior includes some precious works of art made in the 17th century.
