Joppolo Giancaxio is a medieval village which is famous for its cultural attractions and traditional food festivals.
Joppolo Giancaxio is a small tiny village located in the central southern part of the island. The village was founded in 1696 by Calogero Gabriele Colonna, Duke of Cesarò. The most important monument of the village is the Castle, also known as Palazzo Ducale, which was built by the Colonna family in the 18th century. The building has three levels: the basement where visitors can discover the stables, caretaker’s house and the wheat storage; the first floor with three huge and highly decorated rooms and the second floor where are located the living room, the dining room and the bedrooms characterised by a collection of well preserved ancient furniture dating back to the 18th century.
