Marianopoli was founded by Sicilian indigenous who used to live in the area before the Greek colonisation. 

Marianopoli has ancient origins, it was founded by Sicilian indigenous who used to live in the area before the Greek colonisation. Due to its strategic location the village achieved a great importance during the different dominations which characterised the Sicilian history. The current downtown centre was founded in 1726 by Baron Mariano della Scala who named the village with his name. The most important monuments of the village are the Mother Church and the Archaeological Museum where it is possible to discover important findings from the Prehistoric and Greek periods.
