Pergusa is a modern little village well known for its sport and tourism activities connected to the famous Pergusa Lake Nature Reserve
The village of Pergusa was founded under the Fascist government when Benito Mussolini started the reclaim of the area. This modern town is well known for its sport and tourism activities connected to the famous Pergusa Lake Nature Reserve, which includes the only natural lake in Sicily. Set between the Erean Mountains and Enna, the lake hosts a great number of rare migratory birds, framed by a wonderful forest, Selva Pergusina which is characterised by oak and holm trees. Close to the forest, visitors can discover the Archaeological Site of Cozzo Matrice which contains the ruins of an ancient fortified village dating back to the 9th millennium BC. The Reserve also includes the most famous racing track of Southern Italy, the Autodrome, that hosts international competitions and events.
