Ravanusa

Province of Agrigento

Ravanusa is famous for its impressive production of many different types of grapes.

Ravanusa was founded in 1086 under the Norman domination. Later in 1449 Giovanni Andrea Crescenzo acquired the village becoming the Baron of Ravanusa. The current town was founded in 1616 by Giacomo Bonanno.

The main monuments of the village are:
the Archaeological Museum Salvatore Lauricella; the Mother Church, built in 1632, is dedicated to S.Giacomo and displays a wonderful Baroque style enriched by impressive stuccos and sculptures. The Santuario Maria SS Assunta was built in 16th century and includes a series of precious stuccos and decorations.

This village is specialized in the production of many different types of grapes and the most important are: the “Italian”, the “must”, the “almonds” and the “olives”.

Get on A19 to Palermo, exit Caltanissetta-Agrigento. Take SS640 to Agrigento
