Rosolini is famous for the Palio del Grano, an important event created to celebrate the ancient baronial past of the village.
Rosolini is a feudal village created in the fifteenth century after the marriage of Antonio Platamone and Margherita De Podio. The Castle of Rosolini was built in 1485 as a testimony to the birth of this amazing town. However this village was the theatre of many aristocratic family feuds for over two years until the Prince of Lardaria, Don Francesco Moncada Cirino, obtained the “Licentia Populandi” (a concession from of the Kingdom of Sicily allowing feudal barons to populate a town) and so he started the reconstruction of the village.
This charming village includes three interesting cultural attractions:
the Church Madre di San Giuseppe, built in 1840 and designed by the popular Syracusan architect Pompeo Picherali; the Church of Santissimo Crocifisso, built in the first part of the 1700 and completely demolished and rebuilt with a different structure and style in 1930; the Ethnographic museum of G.Savarino which displays the story of the origins of Rosolini and its local traditions connected with the rural culture.
