San Filippo del Mela is a tiny medieval village located in the province of Messina.
The first settlement of San Filippo del Mela was founded in the 11th century by Count Roger I who built the village around a Basilian monastery with the aim to spread the Norman culture over the area. The historical events of the last centuries are the same as the entire province. The most important monuments of the village are the Mother Church, built by the architect Giovan Battista Vaccarini in the 1768, has a wonderful Neo-Gothic facade and includes some precious wooden sculptures date back to the 18th century; the Church of Sant’Antonio da Padova, built in 1904; the Belvedere Manor, erected in 15th century.
