Santa Caterina Villarmosa

Province of Caltanissetta

Santa Caterina Villarmosa is a medieval village which has a wonderful old town centre.

The first settlement of Santa Caterina Villarmosa was built near the little village of Grimaldi. The current town centre was founded between 1572 and 1604. The most important cultural attractions of the village are the Archaeological site of Cozzo Scavo; the Mother Church, the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie; and the Contrada Scaleri Geological Reserve, founded by Giulio Grimaldi in 1572 to study the particular natural environment of the area, including the impressive erosions caused by the abundance of water.
