Scaletta Zanclea is a medieval village which is located in the heart of the province of Messina.
The village of Scaletta Zinaclea was founded in the Middle Age and it was ruled by some of the most important feudal lords in Sicily, such as: Malcada da Scaletta, Pellegrino di Patti and Salimbenio Marchese. Later in 1672, the feudal town was acquired by Antonio Ruffo, Duke of Bagnara. The historical events of the last centuries are the same as the entire province. The most important monuments of the village are the Church of San Nicolò, located on the top of a panoramic hill; the Rufo Ruffo Castle was built by Federico II in the 13th century, today it hosts the Ethno- Antropological Museum which displays a precious and unique collection of ancient weapons and interesting documents about the history and customs of the village.
