Province of Messina

Torregrotta is a medieval tiny village rich in history and traditions.

The village was founded in the Middle Age and it was ruled by the Monastery Maria della Scala for a very long time. Like most of the nearby towns, Torregrotta has been included in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies until the unification of Italy with Garibaldi and his Mille. The most important monuments of the village are the Church of San Paolino Vescovo, built in 1943; the Church of Santa Maria della Scala, erected in 1976; the Church of Santissimo Crocifisso, built in 1925, displays four precious wooden statues including the Madonna del Tindari.
