Trabia

Trabia is well known to be the first place in Italy to produce the Spaghetti pasta.

Located in the beautiful area of Conca d’Oro, Trabia was founded in the 11^th century. Its name comes form the Arab word “At Tarbìah” which refers to the quadrangular plan of the village. Today the economy of Trabia is strictly connected to tourism offering a spectacular environment with its amazing coastline with pristine waters framed by citrus and olive trees. This tiny village is also well known to be the first place in Italy to produce the Spaghetti pasta.
The most important monuments of the Trabia are:
The Castle of Lanza, built in 1517; The Chapel of Santa Rosalia made with impressive stalactites and stalagmites; The Chapel of Calvario is one of the oldest church of the village; The Church of Santa Petronilla; the Church of Santissimo Sacramento.

Close to the village it is possible to visit the Miniera Trabia Trallarita, it was a Sulphur mine opened in 1730 and it is is considered one of the oldest and most important mine in Sicily.
