The Church of Santa Maria delle Scale displays a wonderful Baroque style.
The Church of Santa Maria delle Scale, built in 15th century with an impressive Gothic style, was completely destroyed by the 1693 earthquake and rebuilt with a unique and fascinating Baroque style. They were still able to preserve the Gothic portal and the bell-tower from the original building.
Santa Maria delle Scale also houses important Gothic-Renaissance arches and a 16th century terracotta image of the virgin Mary made by the Gagini school.
This holy place is located on the top of 340 steps and is considered the most important junction between the modern city of Ragusa and the ancient Ragusa Ibla.
