Palazzo Mirto is an impressive museum which includes impressive works of art such as some masterpieces made by Velasquez. 

If you are curious of seeing how rich Sicilian aristocratic families lived in the 19th century then you must go visit Palazzo Mirto, one of the few old palaces still furnished. In the heart of the old city of Palermo, in the Kalsa neighbourhood, this palace is a testimony of the luxury and splendour of the living conditions of the past generations of wealthy Palermitan’s. A former royal palace of the Princes of Mirto it was unchanged for many years. Something a bit different from the usual churches and museums you will be going around to as a tourist. The opulent 21 rooms of this two storey palace are fully decorated with furniture, decor and works of art – there are two Velasquez!

These amazing rooms with its unique decorations may be a bit tiered out by time but it captures true Sicilian aristocracy. Wander from room to room and admire the original silk and velvet wallpaper, the fine chandeliers, the ornate ceilings and and all the rest. Before leaving don’t forget to visit the stable with approximately a dozen carriages!
