Sambughetti Campanito Nature Reserve

Sambughetti Campanito Nature Reserve includes the beautiful ruins of a medieval aqueduct and the Grutta de Nivarula.

The Sambughetti Campanito Nature Reserve  is located in the areas of Nicosia and Cerami, and this nature reserve was established with the aim of protecting the remains of some rare woodlands.

The area includes a beech tree wood, the beautiful Giumenta wood, several wetlands and one of the so called Suvarita of Mt. Coniglio considered the highest cork forests in the Mediterranean. Not far from the reserve you can discover the beautiful ruins of a medieval aqueduct and the Grutta de Nivarula, a cave used by men who climbed the mountains to collect the snow that would provide ice to the villages of the area.

How to get there:

Take A19 Catania -Palermo, exit Mulinello and then follow the S.S. 117 to Nicosia, exit Mistretta.
