Sughereta di Niscemi Nature Reserve

Province of Caltanissetta

Sughereta di Niscemi Nature Reserve offers one of the most charming natural environments of Sicily.

The Sughereta di Niscemi Nature Reserve stretches to about 3.000 hectares and it preserves the most impressive forest of Quercus suber with trees of up to 15 metres. This charming wood was the most favoured place for the aristocratic families to hunt thanks to the abundance of wild game.

Today the reserve offers one of the most charming natural environments of Sicily with its massive examples of holm trees, oaks, carobs, wild olives and a vegetation typical of the Mediterranean. There is also a well preserved wildlife such as rabbits, foxes, wild cats, porcupines, hawks and kestrels.
The nature reserve provides many beautiful paths to visit and discover its wild natural beauty.

How to get there:

From Caltanissetta follow the SS 626 Caltanissetta – Gela, exit Riesi/Mazzarino/Niscemi and then take the SS 190, exit at Niscemi
