Raccuja is an ancient village located near the Nebrodi Park where it is possible to visit a famous complex of ancient houses called Tholoi made with sandstone and straw.
The origins of the village of Raccuja are dating back to the 13th century. Later in the Middle Age, the village was ruled by some of the most important feudal lords in Sicily such as the Alagona, Orioles, Valdina and Branciforte. The most important monuments of the village are:
the Branciforti Castle is located in the medieval heart of the village, it was a fortress erected by Norman on the ruins of the ancient Roman and Islamic stronghold; the Mother Church of Santa Maria del Gesù was built in the 16th century and is considered one of the largest churches in the area; the Convent of Carmine Riduci, built in 1604.
Close to the village it is possible to visit the Nebrodi Park which includes a complex of ancient houses called Tholoi made with sandstone and straw.
