San Cataldo

Province of Caltanissetta

San Cataldo has a charming old town centre which is rich in cultural attractions.

San Cataldo was founded by Prince Nicolò Galletti in 1607. Today the old town centre holds some of the most important testimonies of its past even if the town appears as a very modern village.
The most important monuments are the Complex of Calvario; the Church of Cristo Re, the Church of Cappuccini; the Principe Galletti Palace built in the 18th century; the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario characterised by impressive stuccos and Baroque decorations; the Archaeological site of Vassallaggi includes some of the most important findings of the area dating back to the Bronze Age.
