Viagrande has a fascinating old town centre where it is located its ancient Mother Church of Madonna dell’Itria.

Viagrande has ancient origins and the first settlement of the village was founded under the Greek domination.
The name of the village derives from the ancient Roman road which lead to Messina. The current old town centre was founded in 1408, when the feudal lord transformed into vineyards its fertile lands.
Today this charming tiny village is still surrounded by these beautiful and prolific fields, rich in lush vineyards and fruit trees of all kinds.
The village has a fascinating old town centre where it is located its ancient Mother Church of Madonna dell’Itria which was built in the 18th century with a majestic lavastone facade. The interior includes impressive stuccos and frescos made by some of the most popular Sicilian local artists in the 18th century.

Close to the village it is possible to visit the Casa delle Farfalle Monteserra (The Butterfly House)which is well known in Italy to being a unique and wonderful greenhouse where visitors can discover an impressive collection of rare tropical butterflies.
