Acquedolci

Acquedolci is a tiny village located near the Nebrodi mountains characterized by a wonderful natural environment.

The name of the village, Acquedolci, originates from the nearby river Favara, known for its incredible fresh water. The village was well known for its economic activities such as sugar cane cultivations, wool processing and impressive horse farms. The Lancan family, a Spanish aristocratic family who moved to Sicily in 1391 to rule some feudal towns, built a watchtower to protect these economic activities and the coastline from the pirates invasions.

Close to the village it is possible to visit the San Teodoro Cave. The cave is the result of a karst phenomenon that occurred approximately 8-10 millions years ago. It contains impressive signs of Sicilian history and an ancient settlement dating back to 12000 and 8000 BC.
