Cassaro is a tiny village located in the province of Syracuse.
Cassaro has ancient origins testified by the impressive findings of a prehistorical village peopled by Siculi in 1085. It was colonised by several civilisations such as Normans, Arabs, Spanish and Aragonesi but was completely destroyed by the violent 1693 earthquake. This tiny village has three beautiful churches characterised by wonderful Baroque decorations and facades, the first is the Church of Maria di Cassaro, the Church of San Sebastiano and lastly the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate.
