Leni is an ancient small village located in the wonderful island of Salina.
The tiny village of Leni is located in the wonderful Island of Salina which is part of the Aeolian Islands. This village has ancient origins dating back to the Neolithic Age, and thanks to some recent archaeological digs, today it is possible to discover the ancient ruins of its first settlement. Later in the Middle Age, the feudal town was included in the County of Castanea. In the 17th century the ancient village was ruled by the noble family Galletti who started the construction of the old town centre. The most important monuments of the village are the Santuario Madonna del Terzio, built in 1630 which is considered one of the most popular pilgrimage destination in the Aeolian Islands and the Civic Musuem which includes the Wine Museum, the Ethno-Antropological Museum and the Archaeological Museum where it is possible to discover some well preserved findings such as the famous Portella’s Necklace which is a superb example of ancient jewellery dating back to the 1500 BC.
