Raffadali

Raffadali is a tiny village located in the province of Agrigento which is famous for its traditional food festivals.

The village of Raffadali prospered under the Arab domination; they named the village “Rahl-Afdal” founding the village in the 9^th century. Later in 1507 Pietro Montaperto Valguarnera started the construction of the current old town centre and its charming Castle. The most important monuments of the village are:
the Mother Church, built in the second half of the 15^th century by Baron Montaperto, has three naves and a Latin cross plan displaying a fascinating late Renascence style; the Church of San Giuseppe has a majestic Baroque facade; the Prince Palace, built in the second half of the 17th century with a wonderful Baroque style. Here it is possible to visit impressive rooms such as the “red living room” and the library designed by Francesco Padovani and Giuseppe Enea with a Neoclassical style; the Archaeological area of Monte Guastamella includes caves and tombs dating back to the Prehistoric period; the Archaeological site of Monte Grotticelle displays relevant ruins dating back to the Roman-Bizantine period.

Get on E90 from Via Maqueda, Via Francesco Paolo Perez, Via Oreto, Via dell’Orsa Minore and Viale Regione Siciliana. Follow SS121 and Strada Statale 189/SS189 to Campofranco.
