Reitano is an ancient village located in the Province of Messina with Arabian origins.
The name of Reitano probably derives from the Arab word “Rahal” which means “place of rest”. The village was included in the town of Mistretta until Francesco Colonna bought the feudal town in 1639. This tiny village was inhabited by farmers, shepherds, laborers and artisans.
The most important monuments of the village are the Church of Madonna del Carmelo is considered the oldest building located in the old town centre; the Mother Church of Madonna Immacolata, built in the 17th century.
