The Mussomeli castle is one of the most important medieval construction in Sicily.
Mussomeli was founded in the second half of the 14th century by Manfredi III di Chiaromonte. This village has a Medieval plan characterised by narrow streets and a beautiful ancient church with a stunning view. The most important monuments of the village are:
The Mother Church, built in 1614 by Lanza family it includes the charming Oratorio dell’Arciconfraternita del SS.Sacramento which displays impressive sacred works of art from the 17th century; the Santuario Maria SS dei Miracoli, an ancient church built in the 16th century; the Clock Tower; the Trabia Palace; the Archaeological Museum; the Manfredonico Chiaramontano Castle, also known as Mussomeli Castle built in 14th century by Manfredi III Chiaramonte. The Castle rises on the top of a rock and its structure blends with the natural environment providing a stunning view of the coastline.
