In the picturesque setting of the city of Syracuse, the old winery that once belonged to the Francicanava Barons of Catania is today a B&B accommodation dedicated to the rural tourism business. The house is composed of a main floor where the nobles used to live, while the ground floor housed the actual millstone (palmento) and the dammusi (vaulted structures with thick stone walls that keep the temperature cool in summer and retain the heat in winter).
In the property, there is still an old well (the only one in the area in use since ancient times, which supplied drinking water to the farmers) and olive trees.
Today, a recent restoration has returned it to its former structure while maintaining its historical memory.
Its privileged setting offers the possibility of regenerating stays in contact with nature and lovers of outdoor sports can indulge in swimming and jogging.
Parking is available inside the estate.
The position of the Palmento means it is easy to reach the city of Syracuse. The motorway exit is also near, thus allowing easy access to the airport of Catania (just 30 minutes away) as well as other tourist destinations (Noto, Vendicari, Marzamemi, Etna, Taormina, etc ..).
With a few minutes’ drive you can reach the crystal clear waters of Plemmirio Marine Protected Area, with its golden sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs.
The Palmento has 11 rooms, furnished with taste and sophistication, all equipped with every comfort (Air conditioning, TV, Wi-Fi, shower, refrigerator etc.), all with independent access.
Every morning you will be offered a wonderful breakfast buffet, which can be enjoyed on the veranda during sunny days.
For lunches and dinners we can send you to the best typical restaurants and pizzerias, both in our neighbourhood and in the center of Ortigia. We are happy to help our guests to organise tours, boat trips, bicycle hire, car rentals with or without driver.
Sports lovers can enjoy a sports centre with tennis courts, soccer pitch, and swimming pool just a few meters from the B&B… even in winter.
