The Festa di Santa Rosalia is a traditional and historical parade which mixes folklore and religion. This event attracts thousands of tourists to the city from around the world. It celebrates the deliverance of Palermo from plague in 1624, after the discovery of the relics of the Saint on Mount Pellegrino. U Fistinu, as citizens call the celebration, begins July 10 and continues for five days ending on the beach with the procession of the Saint and her spectacular fireworks.
