Alcara Li Fusi is a small village rich in history located close to the Nebrodi mountains which offers a wonderful view of the coastline.
Alcara Li Fusi was founded by the inhabitants from the villages of Castro and Demenna after Arabs completely destroyed their towns. Later, Roger I sold the feudal town to the diocese of Troina. In the 19th century the spanish Bourbons conquered the area and introduced lots of taxes, which reduced the village to severe poverty.
The most important monuments of the village are the Church of S. Pantalone Martire; the Church of Rosario is considered a wonderful example of Renascence architecture in Sicily including precious paintings and sculptures; the Monastery of Benedictine Virgins includes the Sacred Art Museum which displays incredible ancient wooden sculptures, vestments and paintings dating back to the 15th century; the Church of Maria SS. Assunta is a Byzantine building which includes a wonderful pipe organ created in the 17th century; the Church of SS. Annunziata, built in the 16th century; the Church of S. Michele built in 1523 has a wonderful wooden ceiling enriched by beautiful frescos; the Monastery of S.Maria del Rogato, erected in 1090 by Gran Conte Ruggiero; the Hermitage of S.Nicolò Politi, built in the 12th century, includes a tiny caves where the Saint used to live.
