Riposto

Riposto is a charming village characterized by a stunning view of the Ionian sea.

Riposto is one of the most historic and picturesque villages of the Ionian coast. According to local history the name of the village derives from its commercial and sailor tradition; in fact the village was used as a sort of huge storage where sailors collected barrels and local products ready to be shipped by sea.
The two most important holy places of the village include the Basilica di San Pietro and the Church of Madonna della Lettera. The former was built at the end of the 13th century with a Neoclassical style with three naves and a Latin cross plan. Its facade was made with stones from Comiso, taking inspiration from the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome. The later was erected under the Norman domination and completely rebuilt after the violent 1639 earthquake.
Thanks to its charming coastline and impressive history, the ferry and commercial port of Riposto is considered as one of the oldest commercial hubs in Sicily.

From Catania Fontanarossa Airport

Get on A18 to Messina, exit Giarre.

From Catania and Messina,

Get on A18 exit Giarre, follow SS 114, exit Riposto

By Train:

From Messina and Catania get the regional train, strop Giarre-Riposto
