San Michele di Ganzaria is well known for its fascinating Mother Church of San Michele Arcangelo.
San Michele di Ganzaria was founded by Arabs in the 11th century. The feudal town was later ruled by some of the most important noble families in Sicily, such as Modica and Gravina. Whilst visiting the village you can discover the charming Mother Church of Saint Michael, built in the 13th century. Considered as one of the most important examples of Gothic – Cistercian architecture in Sicily, its interior has a Latin cross plan with three naves including impressive frescos and stuccos made in the 17th century.
