The Bosco San Pietro Nature Reserve includes interesting evidence of the local traditional agriculture
The Bosco San Pietro Nature Reserve, like the Sughereta di Niscemi Nature Reserve, preserves a vast forest of Quercus Suber. The reserve extends to about 30,000 hectares and includes rare examples of trees’ species such as Quercus ilex, Phillyrea angustifolia, Pistacia lentiscus, Juniperus phoenicea, Erica arborea, Arbutus unedo, Myrtus communis, Cistus spp., Thymus capitatus, and many others.
Walking through the Bosco San Pietro Nature Reserve you can discover interesting evidence of the local traditional agriculture as there are some old mills located along the rivers and two churches: St. Mary of Bethlehem of medieval origin, and Santa Maria of the Idria, built at the beginning of the last century.
