Let’s start a short tour along some of the little villages included in the province of Palermo placed on the north-west coast. These wonderful bays near Palermo are known for fine and soft sand beaches with the typical clear and crystal sea due to the lush Mediterranean vegetation extended to the sea. Driving from Palermo the first tiny village you meet is San Cataldo, this is a real paradise of nature thanks to its crystal clear sea and its pebbles bay. Taking a canoe you can also visit the amazing Cave di Palombi.
Continuing the route you will find Ciammarita, which has some hundreds of metres of bay with free access so there are many kinds of places to eat or drink. The westernmost beach of the coast of Palermo is Balestrate is with its 8km of a sandy bay divided in two by a rocky promontory located in the Gulf of Castellamare. Same people say, according to local legend, that a crossbow (in Italian is named Balestra) was used to shoot an arrow from the water’s edge, determining the perimetre of the town’s district and its name: Balestrate.
